First batch of Zimbabwean cricketers arrives in city
The first batch of Zimbabwean cricketers arrived in the capital on Friday afternoon to participate in the triangular ODI series, that also features host Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, according to agencies.
The second batch of players of the Zimbabwe national cricket team will touch down at the Hajrat Shahjalal International Airport later on Friday midnight. The first match of the tri-nation series between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe will be held on January 15 at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur under the flood light.
Zimbabwe has brought seven changes in their team that recently won their first ODI series against Sri Lanka 3-2. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka cricket team, led by Angelo Mathews, will arrive in Dhaka today (Saturday) to take part in a triangular series scheduled to begin on Monday.
Sri Lanka cricket team is expected to reach at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 11.35 am.
The Islanders will open their tournament campaign when they will play against Zimbabwe in the second match of the tournament scheduled to be held on January 17 next.
After the triangular series, Sri Lanka will take part in a two-match Test series against Bangladesh. The first Test will be held on January 31 to February 4 at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in the port city of Chittagong while the second Test on February 8-12 at SBNCS at Mirpur.
The Sri Lanka cricket team will also participate in a two-match T20I series against the hosts, scheduled to be held on February 15 and 18 at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet.
Earlier, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officially cancelled today’s warm-up match between Zimbabwe and BCB XI at BKSP, following their delayed arrival in Dhaka.
The warm-up match was cancelled as it would not be possible for the visitors to play a match after arriving in four separate groups.
